Information about Clinical Services for Veterans
Services provided during a WRIISC clinical evaluation may include one or more of the following:
Review of Medical Record
A thorough medical chart review is completed and reviewed by the clinical team prior to the evaluation. This allows our experts to get a complete picture of your medical history as well as what tests and procedures have already been done. We may ask you to complete some more tests prior to arriving at our center or we may order more for you when you are here.
Extensive History and Physical Examination
This evaluation is conducted by a physician or advanced practice nurse with expertise in the diagnosis and management of persistent fatigue and pain that is medically unexplained. Referrals to other specialists can be made, if necessary.
Exposure Assessment
This interview is conducted to address your concerns about environmental exposures that might have impacted your health. Please click on Exposure Clinic for more information.
Psychological Interview
This interview complements the history and physical exam and will further assess your deployment related concerns as well as the presence of current and past life stressors.
Neuropsychological Screening
The neuropsychologist uses a brief computerized cognitive screening battery as well as a paper and pencil questionnaire to assess difficulties that you may have with attention, concentration, or memory.
Fitness Testing
This session will evaluate your strength and aerobic fitness. Exercise therapy recommendations will be customized for your particular needs.
Additional Testing
Additional testing, such as laboratory work and x-rays, is ordered on a case-by case basis.
Education Component
When veterans meet with the clinical team for a comprehensive clinical evaluation they are provided with an informational binder. We create an individualized binder for each veteran and include information on his/her specific health concerns. We also work to obtain any additional patient health information the veteran may request.
Our educational offering also includes directing veterans to helpful patient information and other resources on the internet. Click here to see a collection of links.
At the conclusion of a veteran's clinical evaluation a clinical team member will meet with him/her to discuss the recommendations made by the clinical team and possible barriers to implementing those recommendations. This is also an opportunity for a veteran to express his or her opinions and beliefs about the Center and his/her participation in center activities. After the veteran receives a copy of the evaluation report our staff social worker will contact the veteran to address and possibly resolve adherence issues.
